Village Signs
Present signage for Juniper Green/Baberton Mains is woefully inadequate, both from the city bypass and closer in to our boundaries. The present sign at the Gillespie crossroads is hanging at an angle with a broken strap and partially hidden behind a lamp post and a tree. Many a visitor has phoned me in desperation having inadvertently got into Baberton Mains by mistake (usually by having seen the...

Malleny?
Maybe Mallory should read Malleny - which is in Balerno, the next village to Currie. Julie Watt

Family History - can you help???
“In researching my family history, the census tells me that my great great grandparents lived in Braberton Road, Juniper Green and then Mallory Bank, Currie in the 1860s-1870s - I can’t find either of these on any map - can anyone help me find where these were/are. Their names were Ramsey and Margaret Ross (nee Thomson) and had two children John and William whilst they lived in...

Old Post Office - New Shop Cafe
Hello! I just wanted to say a quick thankyou to all of you who have popped your heads into the old post office to wish us luck with our new venture - a wee community cafe and shop! Your enthusiasm and support has been overwhelming as we’ve set about the arduous task of cleaning out and re-desinging. It hasn’t been easy - it was all left in a bit of a mess! No matter, we are getting...

Road Signs
I think the overall idea and design look great. However, when you see them in the computer mock up of their locations, they look a bit lost as their main colour is green against the mainly green surroundings. Perhaps white on green or white on black should be considered? Regards Graham Ellis

Road Sign
“Hi The sign looks great and I think has enough detail on it. Not a criticism; just a query. Is that a juniper tree of some variety? Our garden juniper is quite a different shape, but being tall and thin might not lend its shape to such a well designed sign. Ruth”

Simple Road Signs
Hi – I wanted to add a couple of words about the Juniper Green and Baberton Mains signage. “I think the proposed signage is excellent. I understand the comments about including more text to describe Juniper Green but on balance, feel that it would be better to keep the legend clear and simple. Cars will be passing the signs at 30 mph so the message needs to be short. Additionally, I’m guessing...

History Sign
“The signs look impressive and will look good at the entrance to the village, however I like the earlier contributor’s point that we should add a tag line along the lines of “over 300 years of history” to the signs for Juniper Green,” Ken

Sign looks great.
“The sign looks great, nice colour scheme and design. One comment we have is do we want to add somewhere say at the bottom in smaller font size, reference to the village being at least 300 years old in 2007? e.g. Over Three Centuries of History, or First Mentioned in 1707? David & Wendy”

Baberton Mains
The signs are not intended to label Baberton Mains as part of Juniper Green but to give an identity that recognises the links between the old and new communities. The sign proposed for Baberton Mains is “Baberton Mains”. The different signs clearly show they are separate areas geographically but linked as communities and helps in giving BM an identity many have felt is long...

Juniper Green
I’m a resident since 51 years. I think the colour, shape and wording are fine. Don’t think there’s ANY need for Baberton Mains being attached to Junper Green. It was only farmland and apart from houses being built over the years doesn’t have much interest attached to it. A signpost at each end of the village shold be enough. And since it did have a lot of mills along...

Road Sign orientation
“As shown in the photograph the sign at the east end of Juniper Green will be facing traffic entering the village. However, the sign at the west end of the village faces across the road, is there any way it can be orientated to face towards Currie? Robert” Answer from JGVA: : these are just computer image mock ups. The real signs will be positioned in the correct manner.

Rocky roads to travel ....
I can’t help but notice how much road resurfacing is taking place around Currie. Quite a lot was done last year and again this year further work is underway. Now this is great for Currie residents and their vehicles, but I wonder when we’ll see the roads around Juniper Green, including the Lanark Road, resurfaced. Goodness knows what the criteria is to decide which area has priority...

Post Office development
A thought. Although the planning application to relocate the Post Office (which ceased trading today) and build new Public Toilets appears fine on its own, one could imagine that it would then lead to the road being realigned to make it more acceptable to Planners if a housing development was proposed for the Splash Bathroom site or the old Juniper Green Paper Mill site. This would almost...
